Flights: how to reach Southern Africa?

International airlines flying to Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe are limited to a few options only. Usually, the airline choice is made depending on the convenience of the connection deserving your home country.

 

Namibia

Windhoek is home to Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), which is a 35-minute drive from the city centre, as well as the local Eros Airport (ERS), in the city. The other international Airport is Walvis Bay International Airport (WVB). 

Air Namibia (SW), based at Windhoek International Airport, serves the following destinations:

- Internationally: Frankfurt (Germany)

- Regionally: Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban (South-Africa), Victoria Falls and Harare (Zimbabwe), Gaborone (Botswana), Lusaka (Zambia)

- Domestically: Katima Mulilo, Rundu, Ondangwa, Walvis Bay, Luderitz and Oranjemund

Westair (WAA), also based in Windhoek but at Eros Airport, connects locally to Ondangwa as well as Oranjemund, and regionally to Cape Town.

 

On top of those two Nambian airlines, Hosea Kutako International Airport serves the following airlines:

From Europe: 

Germany, Frankfurt: Condor (DE) and Eurowings (EW) (plus Air Namibia)

The Netherlands, Amsterdam: KLM (KL)

From the Middle-East:

Qatar, Doha: Qatar Airways (QR) 

From Africa:

Ethiopia, Addis Abeba: Ethiopian Airlines (ET) 

Angola, Luanda: TAAG (DT) 

Angola, Lubango: TAAG (DT) 

From South-Africa:

South Africa, Johannesburg: South African Airways (SA), British Airways (BA) operated by Comair (plus Air Namibia)

South Africa, Cape Town: South African Airways (SA), Airlink (4Z) (plus Air Namibia)

Lastly, a limited number of flights (other than Air Namibia) land at Walvis Bay International Airport:

South Africa, Johannesburg: Airlink (4Z) and South African Airways (SA)

South Africa, Cape Town: Air Namibia (SW)

Namibia, Windhoek (both Eros and Hosea Kutako): Air Namibia (SW)

St Helena, Jamestown: Airlink (4Z) and South African Airways (SA)
