Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

Nestled along the mountainside, a few kilometres away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Twyfelfontein engravings, Twyfelfontein Country Lodge beautifully blends in with its surrounding environment. Using natural stone, carefully selected paint colours and thatched roofs, its design compliments the sandstone rock formations with minimum visual impact on this picturesque landscape. Magnificent views from the deck over the Huab Valley, desert plains and distant mountains provide for hours of relaxed comfort, peace and tranquillity.

The lodge offers 56 beautifully appointed rooms of various layout and sleeping arrangements: 43 twin rooms (of which 4 are interleading), 4 double rooms, 4 triples, as well as one luxury suite. Whether you are travelling alone, as a group, or extended family, they can accommodate your required sleeping needs. Decorated with natural materials according to the local African theme and rounded off with luxury linen, guests are spoiled with comfort and serenity amidst an arid desert backdrop. All the rooms are equipped with an en-suite bathroom (shower only), a ceiling fan, air-conditioning, mosquito nets, and an electronic safe for valuables. Construction of the lodge is such that half the rooms have a view over the plains and the other half a view of the red sandstone mountains. Specific views are very much a matter of personal preference/taste. Large spotlights light up the mountains at night, providing for a majestic atmosphere. Rooms on the mountain side do have a bit more shelter from environmental elements, as well as a bit more privacy from the main walk-ways between the rooms and the main building.

The luxury suite is built around the natural rock features and blends seamlessly into the rocky mountain. It accommodates a spacious and full bathroom, with both a bath and a shower. The suite comes complete with its very own lounge, kitchen nook, private pool, private terrace, balcony, satellite television, king size bed and minibar. This intimate setting with its breath-taking views over the landscape is ideal for honeymooners, couples on a romantic retreat or the distinguished guest.

The main area includes a restaurant, a bar, a lounge, a swimming pool, a curio shop, and a waterhole for game viewing. There is Wifi in the main area, but not in the rooms.

Activities offered by the lodge are quite varied. They must be pre-booked to guarantee availability, and include:

- a +/- 3 hrs morning trip to the Twyfelfontein rock engravings & paintings, combined with the visit of the Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes (the visit of the Damara Living Museum can also be added, the activity then lasts +/- 4 hrs instead of 3 hrs)

- a 3.5hrs to 4hrs 4x4 afternoon nature drive looking for the desert-adapted elephants (visibility of the elephants not guaranteed; the activity also includes a sundowner);

- various guided morning and afternoon hiking trails (1.5 hrs, 2.5 hrs or 4.5 hrs, the duration of the walk will be determined by the guide, considering the speed and capabilities of each guest)

- and in the mornings only, a 2.5 hrs drive to the Adam & Eve Rock to view engravings and a small bushman painting before continuing to the Real Adam & Eve painting.
